Bramon Wine Estate & Restaurant – The Crags, Plettenberg Bay
Bramon Wines, a boutique vineyard of 5ha established in 2000 and named after Peter and Caroline Thorpe’s children Bram and Manon, is the only wine estate this far east of the Western Cape! This family-owned and run estate has broken new ground by pioneering vineyards in the Plettenberg Bay area, producing an award winning Methode Cap Classique sparkling wine. Plettenberg Bay has subsequently been classified as a wine of origin region. A coup for the area! This dry brut has the delicate characteristics of the Sauvignon Blanc cultivar (the only one produced in the country) with green grass and granny smith apple aromas and a zesty lingering lime finish.
Bramon has now released their latest 2007 MCC which has been left longer on the lees for more mouth feel, a tinier bubble and with more of a yeasty, brioche flavour. The addition of ‘The Crags’ a beautiful still Sauvignon with a granadilla and passion fruit nose has added to the Bramon range. New cultivars planted are increasing the range and uniqueness Bramon has become synonymous with and will be vinified in the cellar currently being built. This will process the grapes from the pressing room right up to the bottling. Local is indeed lekker!
The Bubbly can be tasted at the Estates popular restaurant, set in the vineyards overlooking the elephant sanctuary and Tsitsikamma Mountains. Languorous lunches, with piping hot homemade breads, and delicate mezze treats, decadent desserts as well as their exciting six cultiars from the Vukani BEE wine range, makes an afternoon a pleasure and treat.
