Klein Genot Wine And Country Estate Dishes Up Something Different
With The Launch Of The Genot Restaurant And Eco-Inspired Wine Cellar
South Africa, Franschhoek, October 2008; IN 2004 she garnered applause for the launch of her luxurious boutique hotel and spa. In 2007, she earned further recognition for her maiden release red varietal wines. Now, Klein Genot Wine and Country Estate is once again causing a stir…this time, for the launch of the all-new Genot Restaurant and state-of-the-art Wine Cellar and Tasting Room.
Fulfilling the vision of dynamic husband-and-wife duo and owners of Klein Genot Wine and Country Estate, Angie and Joey Diamond, this new venue stands proud as bringing something fresh and honest to Franschhoek’s legendary gastronomic scene and serves to transform the property into a fully-fledge Winelands Tourism Destination!
Motivated by a desire to offer her guests only the very best, Angie has employed the input of the highly acclaimed team from All Things Culinary – including distinguished chefs Bertus Basson, Craig Cormack, and Mark Radnay – to ensure culinary excellence at Genot Restaurant.
"But there’s no nouvelle cuisine here."
Says Mark, who will be heading up the kitchen at Genot: ‘Our aim is not to compete with what is already available in Franschhoek, but rather to offer something new to the culinary setting of the valley. We want to cater for those who are ‘haute cuisined-out’ or would prefer something more authentic or ‘home-styled’ … only more delicious and innovative!’
So expect a menu brimming with hearty home-style fare peppered with a touch of sophistication. Some tantalising options to be enjoyed include classic and original salads, delicious nourishing soups, fabulous and generously portioned meat and fish dishes, inventive vegetarian choices, some Malay-flavoured and inspired main course and starter options, as well as a few traditional yet exceptional desserts and a handful of firm favourites from South Africa’s culinary history.
Whilst Genot Restaurant fulfils Angie’s dream to offer a unique and wholesome food and wine experience, the high-tech Klein Genot Wine Cellar and Tasting Room is the brain-child of Joey Diamond together with winemaker, Mark Carmichael-Green, which has been created in response to the property becoming a fully producing wine estate.
Designed and built along eco-friendly lines, this new cellar is tailor-made for optimal wine production. ‘We really wanted to create a cellar that was conducive to wine-making, which is why we had Mark involved with every aspect of the design. We wanted him to enjoy a space that could truly be called a winemaker’s cellar, as opposed to an engineer’s,’ says Joey.
So from luxury boutique wine-farm living to indulging in modern, quality wines and outstanding cuisine, it’s easy to see why the launch of Genot Restaurant and the Klein Genot Wine Cellar and Tasting Room is expected to further increase Klein Genot Wine and Country Estate’s reputation as a world-leader in its class!
Linked to the eco-friendly Klein Genot Wine Cellar and Tasting Room, the new Genot Restaurant offers hearty yet sophisticated home-style fare and boasts capacity for up to 100 guests. With its picturesque Franschhoek wine estate location, the venue is ideal for weddings, special occasions, and private functions.
EDITOR’S NOTES:
Klein Genot Wine and Country Estate – A Destination of Distinction:
Located on a picturesque wine farm in the Franschhoek valley, Klein Genot Wine and Country Estate plays proud host to the Klein Genot Boutique Hotel and Spa. Described as a destination where ‘Feng Shui philosophy meets farmstyle hospitality,’ the hotel was launched in 2004 under the guidance of proprietoress Angie Diamond, and has clinched a number of prestigious travel accolades of excellence, not least of which include awards from Condé Nast Traveller, Tatler Travel Guide, and Top Billing Magazine and Television Show.
Gearing Up For A ‘Greener’ Future:
Commenting on future plans for Klein Genot, Angie Diamond enthuses: ‘We plan to launch our first white wine vintages in the coming months and have been very hard at work turning Klein Genot into a more eco-friendly destination. While we have always taken the greatest care to preserve and respect our environment, we have in the last few years removed most of the alien vegetation and hope to soon become a completely carbon-neutral destination!’
