Our peaceful valley resort, which is 22 km out of Underberg, provides the perfect location for a retreat from city life. Here’s your chance to rest, listen to the river and the sounds of nature or spend some wholesome outdoor time with your family.Families love it for the unhurried, Old World country atmosphere with days spent picnicking under the huge Oaks on the river island, boulder hopping in Thrombosis Gorge or just hanging about in boats. Honeymooners revel in the privacy of a luxurious suite and private deck just meters from the river bank. Fishermen love it for the unrivalled opportunities to catch rainbow trout along our 2.5 km stretch of river. To make sure you have a relaxing break, we have babysitters on hand to offer you solitude or an opportunity to enjoy a meal without having to mop up any spillages. Umzimkulu River Lodge has recently been awarded 3 Star grading in the self-catering category.
All our fully-equipped, self-catering units are situated just meters from the river bank with stunning views. All the units, except the log cabin, are equipped with log fires. All units have individual braai facilities. In winter a complimentary bundle of firewood is supplied on arrival and additional firewood is available to purchase thereafter. The units are serviced once daily in the mornings, excluding Sundays and Public Holidays. Should you require additional assistance, we can arrange to have a housekeeper available at an additional fee of R 15 per hour.
Activities at the lodge include bass and trout fishing, swimming, boating, tubing, canoeing, walking and birding. We have an a la carte breakfast and lunch menu and a set two-course dinner menu available. Meals are served in the dining room or on the deck overlooking the river. The Bower - Honeymoon Suite (1)
The Bower is a free standing, thatched unit set away from the family accommodation with its own private entrance through a rose-covered pergola. In the room is an extra-length, king-size canopy bed, two arm chairs in front of the log fire and a stocked mini bar. The kitchenette has a gas hob, fridge, microwave and all the necessary cutlery and crockery. The bathroom is made for two with a huge corner bath and a twin shower. The Bower has its own braai facilities and a private deck with loungers overlooking the river.

Malachite (1)
Malachite is a free standing thatched cottage ideal for a family of 4 with young children. It is conveniently situated within earshot of the kiddies playground and lodge facilities. It consists of 1 double room, 1 bathroom and lounge with a bed-sitter and log fire. The bed-sitter is a wooden framed single bed with another single bed which pulls out from below. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob and oven, microwave, fridge and all the necessary cutlery & crockery. It also has its own deck with views of the river and its own braai facility.

Giant Cabin (1)
Upmarket log cabin with two double en-suite rooms, one en-suite twin room, and three twin rooms. It also comprises an open-plan, fully-equipped kitchen, a lounge, a dining room, braai facilities, a huge verandah overlooking the river and a jungle gym with a water slide and swings for your private use.

Pied (1)
Pied is a free standing, double storey house set 50 m away from the main lodge. It is ideal for a maximum of six adults and three children. It offers moderate privacy, comfortable accommodation and spectacular views. It has its own access to the rolling lawn and River Island beyond.

Woodland (1)
This 10-sleeper unit is a free standing, double storey house set about 150 m away from any other buildings. It is ideal for a maximum of six adults and four children. It offers excellent privacy, comfortable accommodation, and beautiful views.

Pygmy has a main en suite room and balcony up amongst the trees (steep staircase), kitchentte/lounge and dining area downstaris with braai facilities and deck overlooking the river.

Mangrove Cottage (1)
Mangrove is a free standing thatched cottage ideal for four guests. It is situated 200 m away from any other buildings and offers excellent privacy. It consists of two twin rooms, one bathroom with bath and shower and an open-plan lounge/dining area with log fire. The kitchen is fully-equipped with a gas hob and oven, microwave, fridge and all the necessary cutlery and crockery. It also has its own verandah views of the river and its own braai facilities. The cottage is fenced and is a pet friendly unit.
