Situated 220 km from Cape Town on the main street through Swellendam (3rd oldest town in South Africa), this 48-roomed hotel is well placed for stop-over’s for visitors to the Garden Route.  Visitors can stroll through the historic, 18th century town, view wild game in the Bontebok National Park, hike in the Langeberg Mountains and river-raft on the nearby Breede River. The Swellengrebel Hotel, previously known as the Commercial Hotel was established in 1915, it was later renamed The Swellengrebel Hotel.  The Jorge Family purchased The Swellengrebel Hotel in 1974 and have been managing it ever since.  In 2001 The Swellengrebel Hotel won the AA Awards – Best Commercial Hotel and were the recipient of the SAGA Top 10 and SAGA Foods Award.
