Swellendam is the 3rd oldest magisterial district in South Africa. Swellendam forms part of the Cape-Overberg meander. Overberg means 'over the mountain' The journey to the 'Overberg' three centuries ago was a bone crunching one by wagon - but well worth it for the hospitality and warmth you received from the people of the Overberg.
