Monkey Bay Backpackers is now regarded as the closest accommodation to the King Shaka International Airport, with a short 18 km drive. This has made Ballito a favourite stopover for all those arriving to and departing from South Africa. Monkey Bay Backpackers makes it possible to rent surfboards, so all our guests can stand up and say I surfed Ballito. We also offer lessons, so first-timers are sure to be bitten by the surfing bug. Take your lessons further on your travels and try other surf spots on your trip - make this a fun-filled holiday adventure.
Ballito is quite central and offers a wide range of activities for the city slicker shopper, to the sun worshipers on the beach. Try the culture zone, where visits can be made to traditional working communities called Kraals - follow a day in the life of a traditional Zulu community. We are close to all your specialist sports and recreations such as scuba diving, shark diving, sky diving, microlighting and kite surfing.
